Female Authors

It was a dreary day in Cardiff, as I stared at my partner’s bookshelves.

“Most of your books are written by men.”

We checked the whole collection, and they were. And then I thought about it. Most of my books were also written by men. I have a bigger selection of books by female authors, but still pathetic, considering the number of female writers out there.

So then we visited Waterstones in town, and scanned the science and nature writing. Again, the shelves were male dominated.

It’s June 2017, and every book I have so far featured on my blog has been written by a man. I am going to make a conscious effort to read more books by female authors, in an attempt to level the playing field on my bookshelves. Now that I’ve started looking, it’s impossible not to be more conscious of whose hand is behind the pen.

So watch this space, and I shall do my best to redress the balance.
